From the Back Tees

This morning's round was interesting. I pulled up to Harvey Penick at around 7:30 a.m. and I was grouped up with a threesome teeing off at 7:50. I prefer playing from the white tees or the blue, but this particular group felt they needed to swing from the blacks, so I went along. That would have been alright if any of their tee shots had made it past the ladies tees. At least playing with them made me feel better about my game, which wasn't much better.

I ended up with a terrible score after nine holes; forty-nine on a par thirty. I never made it to the green in regulation, but I partly blame that on the tees I had never played from. Luckily, my short game made up for it on two of the par threes that I got up and down for par. A +19 still leaves a lot of room for improvement.

For Father's Day, I will be taking my dad out to Harvey Penick to get a couple more rounds in. Afterwards, we will have dinner with Melissa. The one catch to all this is that it will take place on Monday, the day after Father's Day. Why try to fight the crowds at the course and the restaurants on a Sunday? When I'm a freelancer and my dad is retired, it just makes more sense to wait one extra day. Agree?
